Bug Themed Foods for Kids

Ants on a Log

These are probably the most well-known bug-themed treats for kids and, they’re healthy! After washing and cutting celery into short sticks, fill the divots with a nut butter of your choice. Once they are all full, place raisins in the nut butter topping, creating the fun visual of ants on a log.

Spider Cookies

These little dessert treats are very easy to make. The primary ingredients are Oreos and small pretzel sticks. Using eight pretzels press them into the cream in the center of the cookie with four on each side. This makes the basic spider-y shape and, to top it off, add your choice of a topping for eyes. We recommend a pair of M&Ms, peanut butter, Nutella, or frosting.

Snail Snacks

These snacks are easy to make and are fairly healthy. To create this fun shaped food, you will need: 1 banana, a slice of bread, and Nutella or another kind of nut butter. Carefully cut the slice of bread into a round shape, then place it along the bowed side of the peeled banana on a plate. Using the Nutella, decorate the bread with a swirl pattern and add little face details with the help of a toothpick.

Ladybug Salad

Do you even struggle with getting your kids to eat salad? Make them for appealing and fun for your little ones by decorating them with a ladybug theme. For this design, you can use either full size tomatoes or cherry tomatoes. Taking you tomatoes of choice, cut them in half and place the flat side down on the salad. Then, using cut up bits of black olive, decorate the top with “spots,” the sides with “legs,” and a little head. As a last touch, be sure to place two dots of cream-based dressing on the head to make little eyes. **Note… this kind of dressing can also be used to help adhere the olive spots if needed**

Caterpillar Sandwiches

This food arrangement makes finger sandwiches extra fun! We say, “food arrangement” and not recipe as a nice feature of this snack is that the kind of sandwich is completely up to you. After making the sandwich of your choice, use a small round cookie cutter to break the sandwich into bits before arranging them back-to-back on a plate. Then, to complete the antennas style arrangement, add a cherry tomato at one of the ends complete with a decorated face. Tiny cucumber slivers make great antennas and small dots of cream cheese or sour cream can form the eyes and a smile.
