Pavement Ant

Example of Pavement Ant

The worker ants are about 2.5 mm long and vary in color from dark brown to black. Most people have seen pavement ants in a swarming, black/brown blob overtaking parts of the sidewalk. The natural inclination is to stomp a tap dance of death on top of them, thinking this will eliminate them from around your home. Alas, it will not help. Homeowners often result to do-it-yourself remedies such as spraying them with a hose or pouring household cleaners or other store bought chemicals in the cracks. These methods will however, only kill the visible ants and not attack the nest as a whole.
