Mosquitoes are often mistaken for flies but there are certain features of these kinds of pests that you can look out for. Mosquitoes will mostly be black. Their legs are longer than flies and so are their noses. Females are the only ones that bite to feed, the males do not. These six legged flying pests carry many diseases such as the West Nile Virus, Zika and Malaria. These three diseases are fatal if not taken care of right away. You will hardly see mosquitoes while the sun is out, due to exposure to direct sunlight could kill them. These pests will most likely be out during dusk or dawn. To prevent chances of having mosquitoes around your home you want to make sure to get rid of any standing water.

If you live on a farm with animals, you should also pay attention to their health. If you notice that they look sick, it could be from a small mosquito that could have transferred a deadly disease to the animal.
